Dark, dingy and tight could be a few of the words used to describe this attic space before we renovated it. Light, bright and welcoming could be a few of the words used to describe the attic now. Space and ceiling constraints were two of the biggest issues faced when redesigning this space. We decided to wallpaper the ceiling with shiplap-like wallpaper. Furthermore, vertical lines on the paper help draw your eyes up, making the space feel larger and higher.

We added in a timber desk and cabinetry that would face out the door, at the magnificent view. This way, you would not feel constrained when working with a ceiling right above your head. We added in warm tones and textures, making the attic feel more welcoming and homey. Additionally, a roof light was also added to bring in some more natural light, and help any hot, trapped air escape, keeping it cool.

Our client now has access to an extra room in a house. One that was before, not being utilised. Therefore, this is one of the reasons we love doing our job. We get to help people unlock the real potential of their homes. “The details are not the details. They make the design.” – Charles Eames
