About the Space

When we arrived, the office was jam packed with furniture, files and documents with no place of their own. The walls, ceiling and floors were all beige and in need of an update. The actual working space was confined to a small corner. We needed to give this room an entire facelift, from floors to furniture. The room needed to be a tranquil space to work in. Therefore, we started by turning the longest wall into a bespoke built in unit. It was designed to house all of our client’s documents, books, and other items. Additionally, we opted to go with a dark grey unit to bring contrast and interest into the space. The timber countertop and flooring bring in a natural and textural element.

.

The guest bathroom was originally a small toilet, passage and bathroom with shower and bath. Therefore we opted to break down a few walls and open up the space into one single room. This made the world of difference. We removed the original plumbing and added in a free standing bath. As well as a modern shower and custom vanity with stone top. The rattan unit brings in such warmth and texture to the space. Whilst being functional, the bath makes a big statement in the room, and adds an elegant touch. The oversized mirror helps to make the room appear larger, and reflects the light. This is a tranquil haven for all guests!

Adding Detail to Your Walls

Adding Detail to Your Walls – Panelling

Adding Detail to Your Walls - Panelling

Half Walls – Wainscoting

If your walls need a makeover, or if you have been dreaming of detailed walls in your space, this is the post for you. Adding panelling to your walls can liven up the space, whilst adding interest and detailing. There is no need for your walls to stay blank.

.

Wainscoting is merely a fancy name for adding paneling to a section of your wall, the most popular of which would be the bottom half. This normally consists of a baseboard, which attaches onto the floor and the wall. As well as the panelling, with a chair rail on the top to finish off the design. The panelling can be painted white or any colour you desire. Add in a pop of gold for some extra opulence.

Full Wall – Panel Molding

Panel molding reaches above the typical chair rail height and can even cover the entire wall. It can also be applied to the ceiling and can consist of either solid panels or separate trim pieces put together to create different designs and patterns.” – Marnie Oursler

.

This type of panelling can look exquisite and opulent when painted in rich or bold colours. If left white, it can also add beautiful detailing to the wall. There are so many different types of folding, and ways to apply them. Adding wallpaper inside the molding can also add more detail and interest to the space.

Modern Panelling

If you are not sold by the more traditional styles of molding, the following images are examples of how molding can be applied in a modern way.

.

By applying the panels in geometric shapes, the room instantly looks more modern. The great thing about panelling is that is can be placed in nearly any room. Master bedroom, bathroom, living or dining room, or even the nursery! With so many patterns, layouts and colours to paint them, panelling is a great design tool to help make your space more elegant and magazine worthy.

The first style we will be looking at is gold.

.

If you are looking to add some glamour to your bathroom, gold can do just that. The following images all have different types of gold mixers, taps, shower heads and even a shower drain fitting. If you would like to steer clear of the standard stainless steel, and bring in a wow-factor into your bathroom, gold would be the perfect finish for you.

Black is the new Black

Whether you are going for ultra modern, or looking to add some contrast to your space: incorporating black fixtures into your bathroom will definitely elevate the design.

This is because they can work well in various spaces, and help your space stand out from the rest. Have a look at the following images and let your imagination run wild!

Other Noteworthy Styles

I have compiled a few other noteworthy options, which are all unique in their own way. Rose gold is a very popular finish at the moment, and very on trend. There is even a swan faucet if you are looking for something unique.

Living brass is a type of brass that will change over time, which brings a whole new look to the space. They age beautifully, and add character to the space. Bringing in antique fittings can add a bit of history to your space. If you are looking for an ultra-modern, state of the art bathroom, there are many fixtures which can help accomplish this. Last but not least, we have stainless steel fixtures, which we all know and love.

PENDANT, LIGHT UP YOUR LIFE

We have have so many options these days with regards to types of lighting and styles. It can be daunting trying to choose where and how to install them. But lighting can do so much for a space if they are done well.

Pendant lights give a room depth and shows design consideration. In new build project it is preferable for us to come on board at the start. This way we are able to allocate specific points and make sure the lighting in the space works from the start. We will give you an intentional space that was is designed for you.

There are times where we need to utilise the lighting that is existing. We can create an exciting new space by using what is there.

There is a light fitting for every room and style as well as design and person. We have spotted popular trends such as pendants as bedside lamps, as having pendants as bed side lamps can give the room a luxurious, hotel feel.

We are all so sued to the crystal and sparkly chandeliers but we now have modern and edgy yet still sophisticated chandeliers. These are being used to fill double volume spaces as features.

We should get rid of the standard lighting mentality, kick it up a notch and design a space with lighting that makes you feel good.

If you get us on board on your project from the very beginning we can ensure that you get the lighting you want. Not the lighting that you have to settle for.

You deserve it!

EFFECTIVE TILE CUTTING

We are all so very used to buying a tile and putting it up on the wall or floor.  Many people don’t think much of it from there. A tile can be so much more than just a square or rectangle.

Cutting a tile into unique shapes which are then place together to create a splash back or an accent wall can entirely transform a space. Doing more with a tile shows consideration for a space than just placing ordinary tiles.

Tiles do not have to be restricted to areas that get wet or even to homes. Accent walls can be tiled and where in a home, restaurant or office. Doing accent walls in tiles is more durable and can be more effective than paint or wallpaper.

No need to even stress about buying a specific tile to be cut, you can use the same tile as the rest of the bathroom and just have it cut into your chosen design. This way your scheme stays the same just with a little extra thought put into it.

This concept may be fulfilled by mosaic tiles but what if they do not have the design that you are looking for? What if you are looking for a geometric style tile that you found on Pinterest and they have in Europe but you can’t get it here. That is the beauty of tile cutting. Less hassle and more effective.

COUNTERTOP DESIGN

Marble

Marble has been used in homes long before sliced bread! This timeless and elegant stone can be used in many different applications all throughout the home. A countertop is a great place to use marble. Marble, being neutral in tones can go beautifully with so many different colour schemes and styles.

Granite

Granite is often thought of as a common and ‘boring’ countertop material. This does not have to be the case. Granite, being a natural material, differs from block to block. It too, is mined from under the earth. It can differ in colours, texture and patterns. Granite is a very strong stone, and is very suitable as countertops in kitchens.

Other types of Stone

There are many other types of stones out there. Onyx is a beautiful and unique stone. However, it can be quite breakable if not installed and treated properly. It can be lit up because of its’ translucent properties. This makes a stunning feature in any space.

.

There are other manmade stones such as quartz. These stones are easily available and come in many different patterns and colours. The following are combined examples of various other countertop-worthy materials.

MODERN MARBLE OBSESSION

Bathroom

Marble has become such a statement design piece in many spaces all over the world. Marble is a natural stone, formed under the earth over millions of years. It is then cut up into chunks, sent to factories who transform it into usable slabs. As the stone is porous, it needs to be sealed. We can then use it throughout various applications. The first place marble can be used in the home is in the bathroom. Bathtubs can be cladded in marble. Tiles can either be used on the floor or walls. Countertops are a great way to make use of this stone. It will most certainly give your space an opulent feel!

Kitchen

There are so many different places where stone can be used in the kitchen. From countertops to splash-backs, it will be sure to make your space ooze with glamour! As we mentioned earlier, marble is porous and will need to be sealed. This will prevent water and dieting getting into the stone, and damaging it. There are various other stones that can be used, such as quarts and onyx.

Living Room

Stone can be used to clad fireplaces and walls. Marble look tiles can easily be purchased and tiles on your walls or floors. This will give the look, without necessary blowing your entire budget. Coffee tables and side tables are a great way to incorporate stone into your space. Many decor and furniture stores sell stone top tables. Remember that marble goes very well with metals such as gold and rose gold. Our previous blog post help you know more about how to use gold in your space.

ADDING GOLD TO YOUR SPACE

Gold is trending! There are so many different ways and places that gold could be incorporated into your space. This blog post will explore various ways to incorporate gold into your kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. Get ready to be DAZZLED!

Kitchen

Handles, trims, plumbing fixtures and accessories are all different ways in which one could incorporate gold into a kitchen. Gold goes beautifully with almost any colour. The chances are great that it will compliment your kitchen colour. Many light colours like white and beige work beautifully. So do darker colours like emerald, navy and even black! Did someone say GLAM?

Bathroom

I must add, the gold that we are speaking about is not actual gold. The fittings will be sprayed or powder coated with a gold pigment. This makes it a whole lot affordable than using real gold! It is sometimes easy to get carried away, and have too much of the colour. The following images are of plumbing fixtures, marble tops and tiling which make use of gold.

Bedroom

A bedroom is one of the less likely spaces to think to be suitable for gold. A bedroom does not have to be overdone. A few objects here and there will help make the other colours in the space pop. It will also add a luxurious feel to your space. Here are some great ways to use this glitzy colour in your bedroom.

LOFT DESIGN

Master Suite

Adding on a roof room onto your house is a great way to make your space larger. Another great reason to get a roof room is that should increase the value of your home. Plus, a new loft master suite will give you a brand new space to start afresh. Exposed wooden beams are SO trendy. These will make your space look oh-so-pinterest worthy.

Sleeping Area

As attic or loft rooms tend to be quite small, light colours will help the space feel larger. White ceilings and walls will make the room feel less claustrophobic. Lower beds will take up less space in the room. A designated sleeping area will make the space feel cozy. White linen with layered blankets and pillows will contribute to a cozy space.

Bathroom Area

Loft rooms can often lack space. A compact bathroom need not feel small and cluttered. Skylights will help bring heaps of light into the space. Plus, when you bath or shower, you will be able to look up at the beautiful sky! Once again, lighter colours will make the space feel bigger. However, do not be afraid to add a few dark touches. This will add contrast and interest to the space.

Lounging

A master suite needs to ooze with comfort. Make sure to find the most comfortable seating you can. Add on throws, blankets and cushions. This will add character to the space. Low coffee tables and side tables make for extra storage. Rugs are important for comfort too.
