About the Space

Dark, dingy and tight could be a few of the words used to describe this attic space before we renovated it. Light, bright and welcoming could be a few of the words used to describe the attic now. Space and ceiling constraints were two of the biggest issues faced when redesigning this space. We decided to wallpaper the ceiling with shiplap-like wallpaper. Furthermore, vertical lines on the paper help draw your eyes up, making the space feel larger and higher.

.

We added in a timber desk and cabinetry that would face out the door, at the magnificent view. This way, you would not feel constrained when working with a ceiling right above your head. We added in warm tones and textures, making the attic feel more welcoming and homey. Additionally, a roof light was also added to bring in some more natural light, and help any hot, trapped air escape, keeping it cool.

.

Our client now has access to an extra room in a house. One that was before, not being utilised. Therefore, this is one of the reasons we love doing our job. We get to help people unlock the real potential of their homes. “The details are not the details. They make the design.” – Charles Eames

About the Space

We were called in to redecorate a playroom for some lovely grandchildren. They had so many toys, but no space of their own to keep them at Granny’s house. The room was used as a spare bedroom, and occasional playroom. As a result, the client decided that it should be transformed into a full playroom, just for the children to have their very own special room. We added in some custom boxes to help store toys and decor items. The toys needed to be easy to reach for the little ones!

.

The paint colours were very outdated, as well as the curtains. Therefore we swapped out the curtains for some new fabric blinds, and painted the walls to become more modern. A neutral wallpaper was added to create some texture and interest. All that was left to do was to bring in some new furniture and decor items. Then for the fun part: organising all the toys!

About the Space

Where to begin? From emails, to Skype calls, and flights across borders, this project was worth it in every way. Designing a space in a foreign country is quite the task, but us at KBI were up for the mission. The Seychelles is an incredibly stunning island above Madagascar, and to the right of Tanzania, Kenya and Somalia. (Just to help situate you on a map). They are a nation that LOVE colour! Therefore, this hotel had to be filled with vibrant colours. The trims of the rooms were painted a lime green, which made the rooms feel smaller. We swapped them out for a clean white, which helped brighten the room, and make them feel larger.

.

The colour came into play in the form of scatter cushions, artworks and various other accessories. The pale yellow paint on the walls was very outdated. Therefore, we painted the rooms more of a neutral tone. This helps tie together the bright and bold colours, without making your head spin. We opted to keep the existing furniture, such as the beds and sofas, as these are a part of this Seychelles hotel’s heritage, and would not feel the same without them.

About the Space

Lighting constraints was the biggest challenge in this renovation, as there was one tiny window in the TV lounge. The walls had to be light to mimic the brightness. The wallpaper we chose has beautiful gold, shimmery details in it, which help reflect the light around the room. This also adds detailing to the large, flat walls. We added in a comfy couch to laze around and watch the telly, along with coffee tables to store the remotes.

.

There was a corner that was not being utilised, so we added in a custom built ottoman and commissioned artwork for added seating. What a stunning little corner to lounge and read a book in. Scatter cushions, throws and a rug were added to bring in more comfort into the space.

About the Space

Tying together 3 different rooms, in one open plan space can be quite a difficult task. However, we accomplished the task by tying together similar colour tones in the various spaces. Pops of gold in each of the spaces bring everything together. The furniture in the formal living areas ranges from reupholstered furniture that the client already owned, to brand new custom, and store bought furniture.

.

We commissioned the custom artworks to tie in the various tones of the space. These add pops of colour. Our client specifically wanted a new piano, so we added in a baby grand piano to fill the spaces with music. The client is incredibly happy with the outcome of the space, and excited to host guests.

About the Space

With this bedroom transformation, the images speak for themselves. The dull and drab space was brightened up with a busy floral wallpaper along the long wall. The headboard was swapped out for an opulent, upholstered headboard in a blue velvet fabric. The dark wood side tables were also swapped for some beautiful contemporary wooden side tables, along with matching dressing table.

.

The dark carpet needed some lifting, so we added a light and fluffy rug for added comfort. We also added in a funky chair for the client to sit in and read. Every teenage girl’s dream, right?

About the Space

This master bedroom was completely transformed by utilising what was already there, and bringing in more design elements. Namely: We wallpapered the main fireplace wall. This brought in more detail and colour into the space. The drab fireplace had new natural cladding added to it, which livened it up and made it a focal point.

.

The sad and sagging curtains were replaced with automated blockout and sheer curtains. This makes it incredibly easy for the clients to open the large span of curtaining. We added in some brightly coloured scatter cushions for pops of colour into the space, as well as a reading corner. The reading nook will be perfect to sit and sip a cup of coffee next to the roaring fireplace. What a dream!

About the Space

As I have said in previous blog posts, entrances of a home is such an important space, as it sets the tone for the rest of the home. This was definitely achieved in this entrance. The custom cut mirror detailing brightens up the entire space, and brings through a sense of opulence. The hallway table with a large vase and flowers is not only beautiful, but functional. A great place to store keys and other easy to access items.

.

The client was completely amazed with the transformation of the space. The bright and open room is contrasting to the previous dark and small space. If you would like to read more about entrances, click here.

Greenery - Interior

A Travel in Time, Musgrave Home

Travel In Time, Musgrave Home

We just loved this quick room make over! It is amazing what thought out room placement does, incorporating old pieces with some new and the room was transformed. Travel in time with us in this Musgrave home.

.

When called in to consult on this project, the space was just collecting junk and not being used or appreciated. The space has now become a comfortable reading area as well as a beautiful entrance feature.

.

We were inspired by a British Colonial style with modern twist.

We wrapped the room in grasscloth, pulled in some gorgeous leather occasional chairs, display units and paired them with hand painted scatter cushions selected from Weylandts.
