Pink Affairs - A Moodboard
About the Moodboard

This week, we released our first IGTV video! We created a moodboard filled with various fabrics, wall coverings and other textures. This was a new and fun venture for us, as we had never done anything like it before. We are hoping to create a series of video mood boards to showcase different interior textures from various fabric houses. It will be super informative as you will get to see how we put together different schemes, whilst using such a variation of colours and textures. We will then release a blog post, just like this one, where we will add in various inspiration images, and furniture to go with the moodboard. We hope you enjoy this as much as we enjoyed making it! This week, I used the theme: “Pink Affairs”, and you can find out more about it in the link at the end of this blog post.

.

In our video, which is linked below, you will notice that I spoke about incorporating natural elements, such as shell or grasscloth. The following images are of light fittings that would work beautifully in a space with our moodboard scheme. The shell light fittings incorporate gold, which I spoke about in the video. Gold adds a touch of glamour to the space, and incorporates a new texture. Shell will catch the light so wonderfully, creating a pattern of its’ own.

Incorporating Shell

We can’t wait to create more moodboards to inspire you!

Home Bar Design - Seating 3

Home Bar Design

Cabinetry

You may be dreaming of having your own bar at home – or you could be lucky enough to already own one. Either way, this post will inspire you with various elements of a home bar design. From cabinetry design to lighting, your bar could be a space you would never want to leave!

.

When designing a bar, cabinetry is one of the main elements of the design. You need somewhere to store your drinks, equipment, as well as a countertop to work on. There are so many different kinds of cabinetry materials. From veneer, to solid wood doors, or doors wrapped in metal, there is something for everyone. This is the same when it comes to the countertop. Depending on your space, there are countless possibilities. Luckily, this is what we specialise in, and would love to help you.

Seating

Now that you have your beautiful cabinetry and countertops, you will need some seating. Then you will be able to sit back, relax and sip on your drink. Depending on the size of your bar area, you might be able to have bar seating, lounge seating, or even both.

.

The following images have tons of inspiration for your barstools or lounge seating. The style and design will depend on the style of your bar. We are able to custom design and manufacture the bar furniture of your dreams!

Lighting

Lighting will form an important part of your design. There are various forms of lighting, depending on the application. Most bars rely on ambient lighting, to set the mood. This could be in the form of soft, strip lights within your cabinetry. A fun way to add lights to your space is by having LED lights that take the form of words, or other designs to suit your space.

.

Down-lights, pendants and wall sconces can also form part of your bar design. The following images will give you tons of lighting inspiration.

Creating a Welcoming Entrance - Lighting 1

Creating a Welcoming Entrance

Lighting

An entrance or a foyer is often the first room you walk into when entering a house. It will help set the tone of the entire home, therefore needs to look beautiful! The following post will help you gather ideas and inspiration for your entryway, whether you need a redesign, or a brand new one.

.

Would you feel comfortable walking into a dark and dingy space? If the answer is no, then your foyer should be no different! Lighting will make a huge difference in the space. The correct lighting can help make the space look and feel bigger and brighter. Depending on the size and volume of your space, the lighting will differ. Double volume spaces can often afford to have a large, statement light fitting. Smaller spaces might need to have smaller sized fittings. Don’t forget about wall scones too!

Storage

Am I the only one guilty of walking into my home and leaving my belongings all over the space? No? Good – then the following images will inspire you to have some form of storage in your entryway. This could be a large statement table that instantly greets you as you walk in.

.

For those of us with smaller entrances, a server with some storage would do the trick too. Bench seating with storage options is also a great way to maximise your space and storage. Leave your shoes, your coat and your keys all in one place, looking neat and tidy.

Mirrors

We have said the following, a few times, because it is so true! Mirrors are a great way to make a space feel bigger, as it lets more light into the room, and reflects its surroundings. Mirrors come in all different shapes and sizes. The following images are great examples of incorporating mirrors into an entrance.

.

We love putting custom cut mirrors onto an entry wall. We are able to custom design and manufacture mirrors in nearly any design imaginable. They help us to check ourselves on our way out, and often provide the perfect tool for an “insta-worthy” photo. What’s not to love?

Are you full of ideas for your entrance, but have no clue where to begin?

OUTDOOR UTOPIA

With comfortable seating, your natural greenery all round, and some vibrant colours and textures, your outdoor space could be completely transformed and updated. Outdoor living spaces tend to only be used in summer on the most perfect days. With a beautifully designed outdoor space. This space could become your second living space.

Whether you have a closed veranda or an exposed poolside lounge area, that you never seem to utilise, we can help. Theses spaces can be so much more than just a cold steel 2 seater bench. Fully upholstered sofas, dining tables and chairs are all suitable if done correctly.

There are a few key elements that create the right feel for this space. Lighting is one of them. Many people think that because it is outdoors that they can not have beautiful lighting. There are so many different option theses days with regards to outdoor lighting and even just unique ways in which to incorporate garden lighting to create the magical feel in our own back yard.

The next element is obviously furniture. With the wide range of outdoor furniture and fabrics that we have today, there is no limit to what we can do in a space. With the fully upholstered furniture, the outdoor fabrics are made to handle the sun and the outdoor conditions but covers can be made for theses pieces. This ensures that there is no hassle with having to move furniture back indoors and out of the rain.

Do not let the weather or outdoor space intimidate you. Create a beautiful space that you can enjoy on these upcoming warm summer days.

MINIMALIST DESIGN

Minimalism often has a sterile connotation to it. But real minimalist design can be beautiful if done correctly.

Minimalist design is simple, sophisticated, uncluttered and mostly monochromatic. Colour would be used as accents as opposed to features. Minimalist design utilises open plan living spaces. This allows light to spread through the areas freely. This creates an even uninterrupted feeling through the space.

True minimalism will not only ensure a comfortable, clean feel but will highlight the true nature of the architecture around it as there are not many distractions. Often it is used in spaces that are architecturally interesting as this way the building gets the attention that is deserves.

Minimalist homes can be simple and well designed, not boring. In kitchens it is as simple as taking the built in cupboard fittings to the ceiling allowing an uninterrupted view as well as utilising the space to its fullest. In a living room we then have the opportunity to pick out good comfortable furniture, that allows us what we need in a space. As opposed to all the added knick-knacks that we would ordinarily buy, to make a space feel fuller.

Theses solutions are functional and are the essence of what we need. Having a well design minimalist space allows us to truly make things stand out where they need to.

Minimalist homes can often feel cold and uninviting but with a good design this can be avoided. We would introduce wood and jute into spaces to give the space warmth. We find that a play on different textures creates interest and a great between spaces.

PENDANT, LIGHT UP YOUR LIFE

We have have so many options these days with regards to types of lighting and styles. It can be daunting trying to choose where and how to install them. But lighting can do so much for a space if they are done well.

Pendant lights give a room depth and shows design consideration. In new build project it is preferable for us to come on board at the start. This way we are able to allocate specific points and make sure the lighting in the space works from the start. We will give you an intentional space that was is designed for you.

There are times where we need to utilise the lighting that is existing. We can create an exciting new space by using what is there.

There is a light fitting for every room and style as well as design and person. We have spotted popular trends such as pendants as bedside lamps, as having pendants as bed side lamps can give the room a luxurious, hotel feel.

We are all so sued to the crystal and sparkly chandeliers but we now have modern and edgy yet still sophisticated chandeliers. These are being used to fill double volume spaces as features.

We should get rid of the standard lighting mentality, kick it up a notch and design a space with lighting that makes you feel good.

If you get us on board on your project from the very beginning we can ensure that you get the lighting you want. Not the lighting that you have to settle for.

You deserve it!

LIGHTING DESIGN, AUTHENTIC GLAMOUR

Authentic Glamour

In this week’s blog post, we will be exploring light fittings that are attractive and exciting! These light fittings, we have decided to name as ‘authentic glamour’ because of their materials and aesthetic. The following light fittings all make use of gold and brass tones. These make them look and feel authentic, expensive and glamorous. The other materials used are marbles, stones and crystals. These are all high quality and give off a fancy feel. The following light fittings can be used in just about any space. Be it modern, contemporary, vintage or even rustic! In the following weeks to come, we will be showcasing various other light fittings with different themes, so stay tuned!

Chic Chandeliers

These chandeliers are sure to make a statement in your space. The bold, eccentric designs of these chandeliers will not go unnoticed. These light fittings will be powder coated, aluminium or brass. Therefore, they might not be suitable for every environment. Coastal areas should try stay clear of materials that will rust, such as brass and metals like steel. We hope you love looking at these beautiful chandeliers as much as we do!

Pretty Pendants

Pendants can be thought of as miniature chandeliers. They are often much smaller and less elaborate. A pendant will have one stem, and will often be hung in clusters with other pendants.

Alluring Ambient Lighting

Ambient lighting will help make your space feel more welcoming. This lighting will give depth to your space, and also provide more interest. This ambient lighting can be done through the use of LED strip lighting or rope lighting. IT comes in either warm white, or cool white. Warm white will make the space feel more homely. This will depend on the theme you are looking to achieve.

Stunning Sconces

Finding wall sconces in South Africa can often be a trying task. These beautiful wall sconces are hard to find in a store. They will either have to be imported or custom made. Luckily, we are able to custom design light fittings for your special space. Here are some beautiful images for your inspiration.
