Umhlanga’s Upmarket Guest Bathroom

When called in to consult on this Umhlanga based project this space was half gutted and nonfunctional (see before images below). The brief was quite simple from the client, create something beautiful. We decided to move forward with an Indonesian feel with lots of interest and features. Gold toned embellished wallpaper, crystal pendants, a detailed mirror, a beautiful Victoria & Albert Basin and detailed vanity. We wanted the vanity to be the feature of the space so instead of going for a custom made vanity we searched high and low for the perfect Indonesian hand carved unit that was thereafter converted into a vanity by our team.

.

The mood board below represents the look and feel of the space. Neutral tones have been used throughout the design. Rich browns and creams are featured throughout the design. Various exotic materials such as hand carved solid woods, marbles and mosaics have been used.

.

The wallpaper has an exotic, Mediterranean feel, which helps add to the Indonesian theme of the space. Many patterns have been used throughout the design. These are evident on the mirror, vanity unit and flooring. As the space features opulent decor and design, the plumbing fixtures would have to be of the same class and style. A luxurious Victoria & Albert Basin is featured on top of a detailed, Indonesian vanity.

A Soothing Space in Westville

mood board

photos of the space

Kirsty Badenhorst Interiors was hired to do the interior design concept for a living area for a client in Westville. The clients wanted a stand out space with interest. The space needed to speak to the surroundings and incorporate nature in its style. It was a long space that needed a division without interrupting the Feng Shui and airflow in the room.

.

The moodboard represents the look and feel of the space. Neutral tones have been used throughout the design. A combination of jade tones have been incorporated to add colour and interest to the design. Black has been added in order to add contrast to the space. The lighter tones such as greys and whites help brighten the space and make it appear bigger. The above renders show how the Feng Shui concept has been incorporated into the design. This has been done through the use of natural elements. These elements include plants, woods and crystals.

.

The main problem that the room faced was that it was long and narrow. A custom designed cutout screen was used to divide the two spaces, namely: the living and dining areas. The screen can be seen through, opposed to a solid piece. This has been done in order to connect the two spaces, without making the spaces feel smaller.

Safari By The Sea

These designs are of a presidential suite in a boutique lodge situated in a nature reserve along the coastline. The interior design concept followed was comfort, elegance and speaking to the outdoors, encouraging the beauty of its surroundings. We wanted the space to be timeless, inspired by natural materials.

The mood board below represents the look and feel of the space. Neutral tones have been used throughout the design. The design will include various natural elements, such as stone, woods and thatch. As the location is in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, the space would take on an African feel. This promotes a proudly South African design.

The above renders show how the design brings the outdoors, into the space. There is a seamless blend between the structure and the outdoors. This is due to the large glass windows and doors. As well as the combination of natural elements found outside. Neutral colours and tones were used to not take away any beauty of the outdoors. White helps the space look crisp and fresh. The dark grey opposed to the white and light grey creates a strong contrast and interest within the space.

THE HERITAGE HOME IN HILTON

We have been hired to redecorate a house in Hilton. This home will incorporate elements from a Zimbabwean heritage. The home originally contained elements such as furniture and decor that was originally from Zimbabwe. These pieces were sentimental and were memories from the past therefore we decided to keep these elements. We planned to decorate the home subsequently to compliment these heritage pieces.

As you can see from the mood boards below, the home will take on a contemporary, yet rustic feel. This theme ties in perfectly with the Zimbabwean elements that will be kept in the design. The renders above depict how the home is intended to look by the end of the design work. The colour scheme will consist of earthy colours, such as neutrals and a pop of navy blue. Materials that will be used will be natural, such as wooden items.

.

The rooms include:

.

  • an inside TV lounge
  • a dining room
  • living room
  • outdoor braai area
  • an outdoor deck area
  • a lady cave office space.

Laid Back London Living

Kirsty Badenhorst is considered a mover and shaker and has something of an international reputation.

Kirsty was called in by a high-profile businessman to do a full renovation of his new three-storey London home.

It involved two trips to London and took three weeks to complete. By the time she had finished, all her client had to do was to move in.

.

Designing and decorating in a foreign country would normally be considered as a daunting and challenging task. However, Kirsty, with her design orientated and problem solving mind, set off to London to accept the challenge. The renovation took place in below freezing temperatures, which is completely different to our Durban climate. Kirsty had to use new and foreign contractors throughout her project, and different stores which are not available in South Africa.

.

The home was to be a holiday home for the Londoners. Therefore Kirsty took this to mind, and created a space where the family could relax and unwind. Neutral tones were used throughout the design, with subtle pops of colour. The family wanted to incorporate various artworks into the space, which Kirsty did seamlessly. Subtle hints of sophistication were brought into the space through the use of pendant lights and beautiful decorative items.

.

The clients were overwhelmed with their new holiday home, and had this to say about their experience with Kirsty:

Regroup in Rwanda, a Boutique Hotel

project description

Kirsty Badenhorst Interiors was approached to do the interior design for this high-end corporate boutique hotel in Rwanda. The interior design concept of the property was to create a luxury home away from home for delegates traveling to Rwanda for conferences. The brief was ultra modern and minimalistic. Every room was to be unique yet all tie in with one another in style and function.

High-Up City Living

Kirsty Badenhorst Interiors was hired to transform this tiny apartment into a more functional space. The apartment was entirely gutted in order to provide a blank canvas for Kirsty and her team. The look of the space was to be contemporary and modern.

.

Neutral tones have been used throughout the design. Rich browns and creams are featured throughout the design. The walls were painted in lighter tones to make the space feel more open and airy. The floors in the living spaces were carpeted to provide comfort. The kitchen was designed to be contemporary, therefore, smooth surfaces were used. Caesarstone was used for the countertops, and smooth, dark cabinetry to provide a contrast.

.

The curtain tracks and curtains were custom designed to block out the bright city lights when needed. The furniture made use of soft, grey fabric, and subtle blue patterns. The bedrooms were also designed to be clutter free and relaxing. The space was transformed into a tranquil space for the client and their family to relax in.
