Organize your home

Every day is a great day to get your home organized. There are many ways to organize your home, here are a few tips that we have picked up along the way.

INFORMATION CENTER

Information centres where post, papers and magazines can be collected, prevent piles from collecting on flat surfaces. A great idea is to make this centre your entrance table as this is generally where things would get dumped.

Make your entrance table multi-functional with storage for older papers or spare keys. It isn’t enough to just have a table where these things are collected, include trays, boxes, pen holders. You will find that things have a designated spot and can be put away.

For example, keys that we all lose and have to search for before we go to work.

GALLERY WALL

We all love our picture frame collection, but it does take up surface area and can look unorganised. Consider wall mounting your pictures and creating a gallery wall instead. You are creating a feature out of your clutter but maintaining all the memories.

CABLE MANAGEMENT

One other major contributor to clutter, is the cabling that lies around. We all have it. There are many ways to hide these cables. For example, Multi plugs are made to mounted onto walls or even underneath your TV unit, sideboard or desk even. Cable management systems can be bought at most hypermarkets and prove to be very effective. Cables collect dust and look untidy when they lay around on the floor.

It can be daunting to organize your home but it is well worth it in the end. A clean, organized home is a good, happy home.

Beautiful sheer curtains dressing the windows

Dressing your windows

Dressing your windows has been seen as old fashioned and percieved to clutter a space. This is not necessarily true. Modern design has alternative ways to incorporate curtains into a home. Designers have access to many different curtain rails, tracks and rods. We also have a variety of unique and modern curtaining options available to us. For example, sheers, blockouts, patterns, patterned sheers and many more.

Alternative rods.

Curtaining is now something that we consider from the start of a new build or renovation. Ensuring that the right curtain allowances have been made to suit the design of the home. Popular trends are to create a cavity in the ceiling where the curtain tracks can be mounted. This is to ensure that they are not visible. This becomes part of the shadow lines and bulkheads, as intentional design choices.

Curtains are traditionally the last thing to be installed. Therefore the rods are mounted to the wall and therefore need to be disguised as opposed to being worked into the design. Wall-mounted curtain rods are dated and have been replaced with many neater alternatives. However, there are a few sleek designs available for the more traditional homes.

Sheers are the way to go.

Curtains, they are a great way to soften a space and play a large role in the overall scheme.

A common design choice is to incorporate a sheer curtain. As opposed to a full blockout curtain in the living areas. In the bedrooms, we allow for a double track so that we are able to hang a full blockout curtain as well as a sheer in the front. Sheer curtains are organic and soft, allowing the space to feel fresh and open but still filtering natural light through.

Dressing your windows is a great way to express the design of a space. As well as add the softness thar can often be overlooked by modern interior design.

OUTDOOR UTOPIA

With comfortable seating, your natural greenery all round, and some vibrant colours and textures, your outdoor space could be completely transformed and updated. Outdoor living spaces tend to only be used in summer on the most perfect days. With a beautifully designed outdoor space. This space could become your second living space.

Whether you have a closed veranda or an exposed poolside lounge area, that you never seem to utilise, we can help. Theses spaces can be so much more than just a cold steel 2 seater bench. Fully upholstered sofas, dining tables and chairs are all suitable if done correctly.

There are a few key elements that create the right feel for this space. Lighting is one of them. Many people think that because it is outdoors that they can not have beautiful lighting. There are so many different option theses days with regards to outdoor lighting and even just unique ways in which to incorporate garden lighting to create the magical feel in our own back yard.

The next element is obviously furniture. With the wide range of outdoor furniture and fabrics that we have today, there is no limit to what we can do in a space. With the fully upholstered furniture, the outdoor fabrics are made to handle the sun and the outdoor conditions but covers can be made for theses pieces. This ensures that there is no hassle with having to move furniture back indoors and out of the rain.

Do not let the weather or outdoor space intimidate you. Create a beautiful space that you can enjoy on these upcoming warm summer days.

MINIMALIST DESIGN

Minimalism often has a sterile connotation to it. But real minimalist design can be beautiful if done correctly.

Minimalist design is simple, sophisticated, uncluttered and mostly monochromatic. Colour would be used as accents as opposed to features. Minimalist design utilises open plan living spaces. This allows light to spread through the areas freely. This creates an even uninterrupted feeling through the space.

True minimalism will not only ensure a comfortable, clean feel but will highlight the true nature of the architecture around it as there are not many distractions. Often it is used in spaces that are architecturally interesting as this way the building gets the attention that is deserves.

Minimalist homes can be simple and well designed, not boring. In kitchens it is as simple as taking the built in cupboard fittings to the ceiling allowing an uninterrupted view as well as utilising the space to its fullest. In a living room we then have the opportunity to pick out good comfortable furniture, that allows us what we need in a space. As opposed to all the added knick-knacks that we would ordinarily buy, to make a space feel fuller.

Theses solutions are functional and are the essence of what we need. Having a well design minimalist space allows us to truly make things stand out where they need to.

Minimalist homes can often feel cold and uninviting but with a good design this can be avoided. We would introduce wood and jute into spaces to give the space warmth. We find that a play on different textures creates interest and a great between spaces.

PENDANT, LIGHT UP YOUR LIFE

We have have so many options these days with regards to types of lighting and styles. It can be daunting trying to choose where and how to install them. But lighting can do so much for a space if they are done well.

Pendant lights give a room depth and shows design consideration. In new build project it is preferable for us to come on board at the start. This way we are able to allocate specific points and make sure the lighting in the space works from the start. We will give you an intentional space that was is designed for you.

There are times where we need to utilise the lighting that is existing. We can create an exciting new space by using what is there.

There is a light fitting for every room and style as well as design and person. We have spotted popular trends such as pendants as bedside lamps, as having pendants as bed side lamps can give the room a luxurious, hotel feel.

We are all so sued to the crystal and sparkly chandeliers but we now have modern and edgy yet still sophisticated chandeliers. These are being used to fill double volume spaces as features.

We should get rid of the standard lighting mentality, kick it up a notch and design a space with lighting that makes you feel good.

If you get us on board on your project from the very beginning we can ensure that you get the lighting you want. Not the lighting that you have to settle for.

EFFECTIVE TILE CUTTING

We are all so very used to buying a tile and putting it up on the wall or floor.  Many people don’t think much of it from there. A tile can be so much more than just a square or rectangle.

Cutting a tile into unique shapes which are then place together to create a splash back or an accent wall can entirely transform a space. Doing more with a tile shows consideration for a space than just placing ordinary tiles.

Tiles do not have to be restricted to areas that get wet or even to homes. Accent walls can be tiled and where in a home, restaurant or office. Doing accent walls in tiles is more durable and can be more effective than paint or wallpaper.

No need to even stress about buying a specific tile to be cut, you can use the same tile as the rest of the bathroom and just have it cut into your chosen design. This way your scheme stays the same just with a little extra thought put into it.

This concept may be fulfilled by mosaic tiles but what if they do not have the design that you are looking for? What if you are looking for a geometric style tile that you found on Pinterest and they have in Europe but you can’t get it here. That is the beauty of tile cutting. Less hassle and more effective.

FROM PAINT TO PAPER

There are not too many things in a home that make as much of an impact as wall murals do. Wall murals differ from wallpaper in the sense that murals tell a story in one frame, there is no pattern repeat.

Murals easily set the tone for your home as they are a reflection of your interests, taste and creative flair.

Murals do not always have to be bold, bright and colourful. Monochromatic murals are quite trendy. You are still able to set the tone and tell a story through a monochromatic wall mural. Monochromatic murals wouldn’t dictate the colours of the space. This is useful in an open plan home. This way the tone is still set but each space can still maintain its individuality.

Bright and bold murals though, give us an opportunity to highlight different parts of the mural in each space. Bright and bold doesn’t have to be frighting when you have designers to guide you through the process.

Wall murals can transform your home from paint to wallpaper, from an every day look to an “I want to look at you everyday” home.

You and your home deserve to be awed over, so don’t wait any longer.

Greenery - Interior

A Travel in Time, Musgrave Home

Travel In Time, Musgrave Home

We just loved this quick room make over! It is amazing what thought out room placement does, incorporating old pieces with some new and the room was transformed. Travel in time with us in this Musgrave home.

.

When called in to consult on this project, the space was just collecting junk and not being used or appreciated. The space has now become a comfortable reading area as well as a beautiful entrance feature.

.

We were inspired by a British Colonial style with modern twist.

We wrapped the room in grasscloth, pulled in some gorgeous leather occasional chairs, display units and paired them with hand painted scatter cushions selected from Weylandts.

Tower Home Gets Transformed

Tower Home Gets Transformed

We were called one day for some serious interior help! Our client had recently purchased an apartment in Umhlanga for his parents. The only problem was that it was an incredibly small apartment. Luckily, we had dealt with many small spaces before, therefore we knew exactly what to do to help make the space bigger. With a few tricks up our sleeves, we went in to give this tiny home, a complete makeover.

.

The back bedroom walls were wallpapered with gorgeous patterned wallpapers. This would definitely lead one’s eyes up, making the room feel higher than what it actually is. The client had the position of the beds up against the walls, with the side of the bed facing towards the entrance of the room. By swapping the position of the bed over to the adjacent wall, the entrance way became a lot bigger, helping the room feel more open.

.

The client wanted the space to be timeless, and for the decor to age well. They certainly did not want to be redoing their home in just a few years. This is why the palettes were kept neutral, with muted colours. We popped in a small dining table as there was hardly any space for a dining room! In order to save costs, we ran three panels of wallpaper behind the tv, which became quite a striking feature of the space.

.

We wanted to hang artworks in the living area, but battled to find anything suitable. This is when we got the idea to print a custom artwork, and divide it into 6 frames. This way, we could have a large artwork that was not plain and rectangular, but cut up into different sections. The image below is the artwork we used.
